In 2013 Dr. Mason and his colleague, Eric Patterson wrote an article for the journal Simulation and Gaming based on their Afghan Provincial Reconstruction Exercise. The article describes the use of an innovative game to provide practice in decision making and relationship building. While this game focuses on reconstruction and stabilization operation in the highly religious environment of contemporary Afghanistan, the same board game model can be applied to a variety of scenarios.
